Adventure Harlots take to the road!
Who are we?
– two females, over 50, going strong, love adventures in Scotland, generally on foot and aiming high on Scotland’s Munro’s! This previously involved wild camping, hostels or other accommodation.
Enter the game-changer when we hired a Campervan late 2019 from @freedomcampervan….we fell in love!
After some thorough investigation we chose Freedom Campervans down to ease of booking, home delivery option and competitive costs. We had also checked the reviews and the social media output was, like us, always being positive about our beautiful country, and that’s important. On our introduction to Mindy, we were given a comprehensive overview of all she has to offer – sink with running water, USB ports, lighting, electrical hook up, heating system, sleeping options (we took our own bedding) a practical oven and two ring gas stove - luxury compared to our wee tent! Also the provision of an ‘essential pack’ which had so many wee things we hadn’t even thought about was a great gesture. Most importantly the safety advice as we had never hired a camper before. Craig was super friendly, professional and completely focused on our safety encouraging us to contact him at any point should we experience any difficulties. The van also included some maps and award-winning Scottish travel books which was another nice touch.
Local knowledge makes such a difference on a trip away.
Mindy was taking us to the remote Island of Mull on the west coast of Scotland which boasts the wildest coastal scenery in the UK and some specular beaches. On catching the evening @calmacferries we pleasantly learned the cost for our journey was the same as a car - this again was a game changer in that we previously thought the costs would be far higher. Heading on single track roads to the foot of Ben More, the only island Munro outside of Skye we parked for the evening in the pitch-black, cooked a heart-warming meal and woke to breath-taking views after a very comfortable sleep.
On returning to Mindy after our long day on Ben More the sheer delight of putting the kettle on, changing out of our gear and getting the heating on - yes central heating - can only be described as utter bliss. The ability to then up-sticks and head to Fionphort that evening with stunning sunset views for our early morning ferry to Iona added to our confirmation that we were in love with Mindy. One of the really surprising things was the size and space within the campervan. Once the roof was up and the front chair rotated into place, we had the perfect lounge to cook diner and settle in for the night. Both beds are very comfortable however we do take turns on the upstairs bunk.
We have since enjoyed several trips in Mindy and can happily declare ourselves as campervan converts. We promise you will not be disappointed in the freedom it affords you have when visiting Scotland or hiring from this company.
Thanks Craig.
We will be back.
